The MacLean Groom: Highland Lairds Trilogy

Ready for the Second MacLean Story
This Highland tale follows the romance of Rory and Joanna. They are both against a marriage required by the King and the adventure begins when Rory comes to claim his bride and her lands. There is intrigue and suspense. There are predictable moments and plot turns but Rory is fun to read about and Joanna is a sweet innocent who shows unusual wisdom in the end. The tale is easy to read. I finished the book in 2 days and enjoyed the reading.

Worth reading.....
It took me quite awhile to warm up to "The MacLean Groom" ....Infact, I felt that the beginning dragged horribly and I almost set it aside...I am however, very glad that I gave it a chance...Inevitably the story grew on me...the strongest point of the book would definitely be the character Rory..I adored him...He was so loving and patient.....I felt that he was way too good for Joanna...It bothered me that she was so inconsistent with him throughout the beginning of the story, but eventually she pulls it together and I ended up liking her regardless....I would like to see Lachlan and Raine paired up..I don't know if they will...but I'm hoping! Anyways..this book is worth reading..if you find yourself struggling through its start, give it a chance..I think youll be glad that you did.

Oh for a 21st Century Rory!
Rory is a dream come true. Wanting to be what his new bride wants him to be, he tries to woo her as a "knight in shining armour". Humourous, loving, and sexy the man is just perfect! Joanna is naive to the point of hilarity in some things but she just can't seem to keep her aloofness for very long under Rory's constant barrage of caring and seduction. Who could blame her! Have already been looking to see if this was maybe the 2nd or 3rd book of the trilogy so I could buy the others. Hurry Kathleen! Bring me Lachlan and Kier!

good story
This was quite a rewarding story. I came across the book after having read "The Dark Highlander" and "The Kiss of the Highlander" and I kind of expected more of the same: 16th century Scottish settings, dark tall men with a dangerous side, inhuman power and moral principles, small lush women strong-willed but soft at strategic moments, time travel, and a happy settlement at the end (with the possibility of a sequel). Like it or not, most authors do develop a certain formula. Well, how refreshing to see Grimm, the main male character of this story, more human than the previous sex gods - that is, hurt and vulnerable. I believe Ms. Moning did a very good job in exploring a wider range of emotions than previously. On top of that, she is a wonderful story teller. Her descriptions are vivid and evocative, be it about Highland castles or romantic acts, and whatever authorial tricks she uses to capture the reader's attention, they weren't apparent to this reader - hence I found myself fully immersed in the tale, all 384 pages of it. I am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Moning's books (although I suspect at some point I will grow tired of dark tall men with a dangerous side etc. etc.).

Don't miss out on reading this one!
I absolutely adored Karen's new book, "To Tame a Highland Warrior". It was a book that I truly could not put down. Karen writes in such a way that "bam" she grabs your attention in the very beginning and pulls you right into the story itself. While reading this novel, I felt a real familiarity with the two main characters, Grimm and Jillian. She really gets into setting up the background (but doesn't pound it - background info, that is - to death like so many other authors do, so much that you want to put the book down right then) for her characters so that you feel like you know them personally. You can really "feel" the characters' emotions and the conflicts going on between them. I have to say that it's so very easy with Karen Moning's writing style to get totally caught up and lost in the story line. When I read her first book "Beyond the Highland Mist", I didn't think that a romance novel could get any better. Boy was I wrong. This novel, in my opinion, far surpasses the last, which like I said above, didn't think could get any better! I really loved everything about her latest novel - especially the way she grabs your attention from the start and keeps it the whole way through! Can't wait to read her next one!

This is a fast paced romance with a twist
Karen has written another winner, surpassing her first novel in content, structure and character development. I honestly didn't think she could create characters more engrossing than she did in Beyond The Highland Mist, but the lives of the characters in To Tame A Highland Warrior grabs you and never lets go til the book ends. It's one of those stories that's so good you start reading slower toward the end because you don't want it to end. Grimm Roderick the run away son of a highland laird is dark, handsome and mysterious. The Ultra warrior of Scotland afraid to love the woman he wants because it could cost her her life. Jillian St. Clair is beautiful and headstrong, swearing she will never marry because she was rejected by the one man she has loved since childhood, Grimm Roderick. You just have to read this fantastic story to understand the depth of the characters Karen Moning has created. This one is a keeper, to be read again and again. Miss Moning is a must buy for me.

Song of the Highlands
I loved this book. Sharon Gillenwater makes the characters alive. You really feel like you know each one. For once there's a romance that is clean. A 14 year old could read it without guilt, but that doesn't mean that it lacks romantic parts. Plus it's not all mushy huggy kissy. There's adventure! Plenty of it, just when you think everyone's safe and the story can wind down something else happens and You're living on the edge again. You can't put this book down until you finish (even then you have a hard time). I'm adicted, I can't wait to read more of Ms. Gillenwater's books.

Wonderful!
Song of the Highlands is a spectacular book filled with adventure, romance, and suspense. I have read books of all kinds and I must say this is one that I come back to time and time again. Ms. Gillenwater develops the characters in such a way that you feel like they are your good friends. You care about what happens to each and every one of them. Unlike secular romance, Song of the Highlands enforces good morals; but unlike many other Christian novels, the relationships are not dry and boring. The characters are Christian without being unrealistically good. They struggle with right and wrong just as each of us do. The book is well written so you can follow it easily and you don't get characters mixed up. I highly recommend it for anyone and everyone looking for a great read. (don't forget to read Highland Call after you finish Song of the Highlands... I recommend you buy both becaused you're going to want to keep up with your new "friends")

A moving and challenging work.
This was the first of Ms. Gillenwater's books I have read, and I was impressed with her ability to portray characters sincerely devoted to serving Christ and to honoring Him in their relationships with the opposite sex. For years I read secular romances, shunning Christian romances for fear that they would be sappy, boring, and unrealistic. To my delight, I found the characters in this book to be very real and the story to be every bit as passionate, humorous, and interesting as any other I have read. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading other books by Ms. Gillenwater.

hero to die for
Dageus MacKeltar is a 16th century highlander now living in New York and haunted by the souls of thirteen evil druids. When Dageus violated the compact between Keltar and the Tuatha De (god/fairy creatures from Celtic legend), the druids vanished thousands of years ago gained partial freedom--in Dageus's mind. Each time he works his magic, they grow stronger. Soon, they will take over his body and plunge the world into chaos. Dageus has vowed to hold them off and continually researches ancient Celtic knowledge for a hint of the means by which he can regain his freedom.

Chloe Zanders is a museum curator with one of the documents Dageus wants. When she enters his penthouse, she is attracted to the perfectly preserved ancient artifacts that litter it. The two are instantly attracted by Chloe is a virgin and promises herself that she won't be just another notch on Dageus's bedpost.

Author Karen Marie Moning writes convincingly of Dageus's rapid descent into darkness--a descent that can be slowed but not stopped by the frequent sex that Chloe is denying him. A time travel segment puts the two characters back into medieval Scotland, letting the reader enjoy a reunion between Dageus and his father. Moning's action sequences are exciting and convincing.

Dageus is a powerful character who, in this reviewer's opinion, deserves more than Chloe whose major claim to fame seems to be her application of the 'rules' in denying sex until she gets a commitment. Other than the obvious physical chemistry, it's hard to see why Dageus choses her as his unique woman. Admittedly the story is about magic, but the heroine should contribute more to the story than Chloe does.

I'd be interested in other writer's opinions, but I also thought that the solution to Dageus's dilemna was a bit deus ex machina (literally).

Flaws aside, Karen Marie Moning delivers hot sex, exciting action, and a hero to die for. A pretty strong combination.

Pretty good book by the author.
Dark Highlander is the first book that I have read from Karen Marie Moning and I found I really enjoyed the book.

The hero and heroine were great together. Dagaues was the perfect hero- dark, brooding, handsome, caring, etc. And although at times the heroine was a little annoying, she was a perfect foil for the more darker hero. The growth and sexual tension between was well played out throughout the book, and at times it was HOT HOT HOT! The dilemma the hero faced with the thirteen souls of the evil Druids was an interesting one, and the small glimpses of the world of the Fay (Fairie) was interesting, especially the character Adam Black, who I hope will get his own story. The added interactions with the hero's family added a humor and a more personal feel to the story.

However, there were a few problems I had with the book that prevented me from giving it a higher rating. One, is that although it is supposed to be a stand alone book, from my point of view it would have been easier to read the story of the hero's brother, Drustan, which was the prequel to Dark Highlander. It would have clarified some confusion about what really happened and why the hero, Dageaus was cursed in the first place. The second was the ending! It felt completely rushed and the whole confrontation with the thirteen Druid souls and the sect who worshipped him was anticlamatic. The author does not detail WHAT EXACTLY happened. The reader was left with the feeling of- that's it???

But overall, the story was good. There is great built up between the characters, the action was good and love story great. I will definitely read more from this author.

Awesome!
This was a wonderful book!! I had been waiting for this book to come out ever since I finished reading KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER(prequel), and bought it right away, and, boy, am I glad I did. The characters are wonderfully developed and Dageus was to die for! But let's not leave out Chloe, it was a refreshing change to have a strong heroine who still has her wits about her. I have gotten so tired of books where the ladies are so stubborn that the put all of the characters in jepordy just to have her way. Well Ms. Moning managed to make a strong, smart, independent heroine with just the right amount of stubborness. This book was very sensual but not overly so. TDH really drew out my emotions. I cried, I laughed out loud(sometimes in public places, and as some of you know that can be quite embarrasing!) I yelled, and I felt the pain of the characters. All in all this was a wonderful-stay up until 3 in the moring to finish it-read, and would definetly recommend it to all of my friends.

An Unforgetable Non-stop Romantic Adventure in the Highlands
This was the first book of Julie Garwood that I read and was totally hooked by the first chapter. Julie Garwood has a great talent for getting you to care about the characters and creating the perfect setting/scene. The Wedding got me totally hooked on her books and found other great treasures in her collection. If you're looking for unforgettable romantic adventures of clan wars, powerful lairds and strong-willed ladies set in the Highlands of Scotland, then look no further beyond Julie Garwood's collections. I highly recommend The Bride, The Secret, Ransom and Saving Grace.

Almost Better Then The Bride
I absoluetly loved this book. Brenna was fresh and cute andConner steals your heart. The character developmant was excellent.Ms. Garwood sure knows how to get your attention. Brenna and Conner were perfectly written for each other and they definatly had a hot romance. I loved that the men were awed by the fact that she ate so much. Finally, a heroine who isn't afraid to pig out. Scottland is my all time favorite setting, and Ms. Garwood describes it beautifully. Now I want to visit it for myself! The plot is fast paced and the pages basically turn themselves. Plus, the return of Alec and Jamie was perfect. It was wonderful to hear about how they turned out. If you've read any of Julie Garwood's books, this is definately for you. Brenna's end description of her wedding is truly the icing on the cake. Please, read this superb, fabulous classic from the magic pen of Julie Garwood.

A must read!
This is one of the best books I've ever read. I've read every book Julie Garwood has written and each one makes me love her writing more. I'm always waiting for her newest novel to surface. The story of Brenna and Connor MacAlister was wonderful. I made my way through this book in mere hours it seemed. I couldn't even put it down to go to sleep! You could feel the sparks flying between the main characters with each turn of the page. If you love a good book, then this is the one to read. And, after you've finished it, move on to Julie Garwood's other magnificant novels. I guarentee, you'll never lose interest.

A Whisper of Roses (Thorndike Large Print Romance Series)
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Pr (Largeprint) (January, 1994)
Author: Teresa Medeiros

Moving
This is perhaps one of the most moving, poignent, and fullfilling novels I have ever read. Morgan and Sabrina are brought together, but before they can be truly happy, they must overcome some terrible obsticles. Every page kept me on my toes, waiting to see how the conflict would be resolved. What the characters felt seemed so real that at times I wanted to throw down my book and cry, which has never happened to me before. However, I have two complaints. One is that there is an important three letter phrase that I enjoy reading, even if it is completely obvious. I just feel that romance novels are more complete with these three words, however because this book was so deeply moving, the author can get away with it. Second is that I thought it would have been nice to have an epilogue. At the end I felt really sad that I did not get to read about any additions that Morgan and Sabrina had made to the family. Despite these two minor details, this book was wonderfully written and at the end the reader can almost feel triumphant.

Great Book! Leaves You Wanting More
This was the first book I had ever read by Teresa Medeiros. The other romances that I had read just seemed like they had too much lovey dovey stuff. Ms. Medeiros definately does not do that. This book is everything a romance should be and more. There is just something about Ms. Medeiros' writing that won't let me put a book down. Since I read this book I have continued to read other books by Ms. Medeiros, and all of her books will leave you wanting more. I have found though that out of all the ones I've read, A Whisper of Roses, is by far my favorite. I have read it about 6 or 7 times, and it still has the same effect on me. I'm always disappointed when it's over. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story. It will bring all of your emotions out of you. You will go from sad to happy, and more than once you'll catch yourself laughing out loud. I really love the witty commemts made between Morgan and Sabrina. I feel that I can really connect with Sabrina, and maybe that is why I love this book. If you want a good story and a lot of entertainment then this is the book for you. You should know that all of Ms. Medeiros' books are great also. She is such a talented writer that she knows how to make the reader feel like he/she is there in the story.

To all Romance readers, .....GET THIS BOOK!!!
I only wish that there where more stars available to rate this book. I finished reading it early this morning, by 2:00 a.m., and I was supposed to wake up at 5:30 a.m., to go to work. I was not able to wait until the next evening to finish it because the story had me so deeply involved that I had to know what was going to happen. I've read several romance books and this one is by far, THE BEST OF THEM ALL!!!. It's a true original masterpiece. This book made me cry of joy, made me laugh until my stomach hurt (so much that my husband would look at me as if I was going mad), made me feel like you will get everything you want out of life only if you want it very badly. Morgan is the ultimate hero, he's for lack of better words the personification of all a woman could want in a man, he's honest, proud, loving, misterious, a savage gentleman and on top of all, irresistibly handsome, what a combination! Sabrina is innocent, beautiful, courageous but has been spoiled by everybody. They go through several obstacles most of them placed between them by themselves. Their story is full of love, passion, betrayal, danger and humorous anecdotes. I want to thank Ms. Medeiros for ever thinking of becoming a writer and for bringing, to the world of us readers, such joy through her work.

The Passionate One: McClairen's Isle (Class C)

Author: Connie Brockway
Average review score:

What a POWERHOUSE of a book!
Wow,wow, wow! I'm still reeling from The Passionate One, the story of Ash Merrick and Rhiannon Russell. I've never read Connie Brockway before, but boy! was this terrific! Ash was a wonderful, tortured hero and Rhiannon a lovely, insightful heroine. The whole novel was multilayered and complex - deceit and lies layered one over the other. A fabulous, exciting story, not just a beautiful love story. I'm so glad it's the beginning of a trilogy because I can hardly wait to carry on with the stories of Raine and Fia. One more thing about Ash - his character reminded me of two other wonderful "tortured heroes": Reggie Davenport from The Rake and Michael Kenyon from Shattered Rainbows, both books by Mary Jo Putney. Anyway, bravo Connie! You have a new true-blue fan in me.

Loved Every Minute!
I was browsing the romance aisle at the bookstore and read the back of the book. To be honest I bought it because the name Ashton Merrick (Merrick being my maiden name), caught my attention. I am a die hard romance fan and to find a book where the hero had my last name was extremely intriguing. From the first page I was hooked and read the book completely in one sitting.

I've also read Ms. Brockway's The Reckless One and enjoyed that immensely. I haven't gotten Fia's story yet, but I'm dying to get my hands on it. I know that Ms. Brockway's characters are fictional but it's fun to imagine I might have such a wonderfully dashing, handsome and exciting man, as Ashton Merrick, in my family history. Most of my clan came from Wales, but there is also some English as well as Scottish ancestory in my family.

Thank you Connie for both of these delightful books and I'll look forward to reading more of your wonderful stories.

Tormented hero, repressed heroine, evil plots galore,WOW!
Do you love intense, tormented, yet honorable heroes? Do you enjoy stories full of passionate motives, plots, daring actions, deceptions, and self-sacrifice? Do you like your heroine complex?

This is the romance for you!

Ash is irresistibly tough, vulnerably loving. His father--a spawn of hell--is a force to be reckoned with (and do I want to see him get his comeuppance!). He can't always do what he feels is the moral thing to do, or the kind thing, but he tries to do what is right, despite the odds.

Rhiannon is suppressing a horrid past. Haunted by nightmares, trying to be a woman she thinks she should be to attain "a safe life", she is nevertheless drawn to this dangerous, passionate, similarly haunted man--Ash Merrick.

The sexual tension is combustible. The prose is impeccable and lyrical. The plot is smart and fast.

A rivetting read. It's going to take three books to work out the complexities of the machinations in this romantic suspense trilogy, but what a ride! As eager as I am to see the culmination, I know I'll regret reading that last page.

Wonderful work, Ms. Brockway. Do I see another RITA in the future?

*Mir*

The Stone Maiden (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (September, 2000)
Author: Susan King
Average review score:

Sweet romance but too slow... for comfort
I've picked up this book after reading all the great reviews. I can't say that I'm very impressed with the book, only the parts where the myths and legends come in. Ms Susan King must have done loads of research there.

"The Stone Maiden" tells the story of Alainna MacLaren (leader of Laren Clan) and Sebastien Le Bret. Clan Laren was a dying clan as the young men of this clan has been killed by a neighbouring enemy clan through battles and there was not a single child in the clan. Alainna pleaded the Scottish King to pledge a warrior to her as her husband. The King sent Sebastien as he was the best candidate the King could offer. Alainna needed her husband to take her family name in order to prevent her clan from dying out. Sebastien had stated very clearly that he would not do that. The whole story revolved around a 700-year-old spell and the Stone Maiden.

What we have here is a good storyline but somehow, the story is dragged down by too many story-telling sessions by the clan members. The book contains many myths and legends of Clan Laren, so the clan members, after almost every meal, would sit down together and have a story-telling session. It is fair enough if there is a couple of these sessions in the book but there are more than that. There were also too many times that Alainna would go and pray and make some offerings to the Stone Maiden. There was a loop-hole I couldn't figure out why it had happened, was that: before Sebastien and Alainna could agree that who should take who's name, they were already handfasted. I thought that both their family names were extremely important to them. If so, they should have agree on that first before commiting themselves to the union.

Very disappointing!

A special romance
In 1170 in the Highlands, Clan Laren is dying after generations of a feud and raids from Clan MacNechton. There are no young people left except for the clan leader, Alainna MacLaren. The legend of the nearby STONE MAIDEN is that after seven centuries of protecting the Laren clan, their safety will end unless Alainna marries a warrior willing to adopt her name by the spring.

Desperate for help, Alainna petitions King William for a heroic Scottish husband. William sends Breton Sebastien Le Bret, who has a beloved son living in Brittany, a good enough reason in his mind not to adopt Alainna's name. As Alainna and Sebastien fight with each other and war with their common enemy, they fall in love. However, the surname remains an issue as she believes in the legend and he loves his five-year-old son.

THE STONE MAIDEN is an exciting Medieval Highlander tale that centers on duty, honor, and love. The story line is filled with excitement that picturesquely provides the audience insight into clan life, survival and period politics. The lead couple is a warm pair even though Sebastien's patience with Alainna seems stretched. The support cast augments the tale with a feel for the twelfth century. Susan King shows why she is considered by fans and critics to be one of the monarchs of the sub-genre.

Harriet Klausner

A beautiful romance!
I loved this book! In fact, I love the way Susan King writes, and I'm definitely going to get her other books! I read The Stone Maiden very quickly, since I was so wrapped up in the story and came to love her characters, and I did not want to leave them when it was over. The twelfth century seemed very real, not vague or shallow, and I read a lot of medieval settings, especially Scottish, which Susan King is known for writing. The Stone Maiden is a beautiful romance, not only because of its great research, but because I honestly felt the emotions of the characters, and could feel the love between Alainna and Sebastian as it grew. This book will melt your heart. Very special!

An author to keep your eye on.
This book had all the right elements to catch my attention; fantasy, history, sexual tension, a really hunky hero, a hunky villan and a heroine who doesn't take any guff. I laughed in some places, cried in others and was generally sorry to see the story end. There were some historical inconsistancies, but I could overlook them by this first time author. I will definately be putting this on my keeper shelf for a rainy day re-read. Try it, you won't be sorry. I await Ms. Monings' next book to see if it lives up to her promise.

WOW!
Aoibheal, Queen of the Fae, told her court about "the Hawk". She told of how he could win any woman's heart and soul. She even made some believe Hawk had stolen her favor, as well. The King of the Fae, as well as "the Fool" Adam, decided upon revenge. Adam traveled through time until 1997. It was there he found a perfect woman who hated beautiful men, for very good reason.

Adrienne de Simone was whisked through time to the sixteenth century and forced to wed a man known as Hawk. She wanted nothing to do with such a good looking man. Beautiful men mean trouble and pain. Hawk could not believe she would have nothing to do with him. Worse yet, a smithy suddenly appeared in town, named Adam Black and was determined to woo her away from him! Adrienne, wanting nothing to do with either of them, was made into a pawn of which only Aoibheal, who ruled over all, could save.

***WOW! I loved this book. It is definately "a keeper"! Here is one that will never see the inside of a used book store. Powerful, romantic, and leaves you believing in Fairies.***

First Book Written? WOW!
I bought this book for my mother-in-law who loves time-travels. On her recommendation I bought second copy for myself and began to read. I could not put this book down. I found myself emotional. Never have I been so engrossed in a book like this to the end. Hawk was the Adonis of 1513. Adrienne, an orphan who did not trust beautiful men. Brought together by fairies who want to see Hawk refused by a woman, Adam must make sure that Adrienne refuses Hawk at all costs. Not only does he want the Hawk to fail but he wants Adrienne. The details in this book will make you feel as if this were unfolding right before your eyes. I cannot believe this is her first book! I will definetly follow Monings writing career.

Highland Velvet

The Best of the Velvet Series
As a precurser, I don't read romance novels frequently, but my summer jobs practically dictates that I have an easy read to pick up when work slows. I have found that romance novels are often terrible, but I really enjoyed "Highland Velvet": It made work more bearable.

I managed to finsh "Velvet Promise;" it was a decent read, nothing special. I read "Highland Velvet" out of curiosity, and I have to say I am VERY glad I did. The characters have chemistry, and the setting/historical background held my interest. Also, I think most heros in romance novels are quite silly, but I actually loved Stephen: Deveraux mananges to make him silly, sweet, cute, and sexy.

I tried to read both "Velvet Song" and "Velvet Angel," but they were huge disappointments compared to "Highland Velvet" and I couldn't finish them. I don't suggest that anyone else read them either, but I see they've gotten favorable reviews so feel free to ignore my opinion.

Happy Reading!

This book is captivating !
Bronwyn MacArran and Stephen Montgomery sizzle up the pages of this enthralling book, the 2nd in the wonderful Montgomery series. As you read this book, you will transported back to Medieval Scotland, with all the passion, all the poverty and all the love you can possible imagine. I do recommend reading the series IN ORDER, so do read The Velvet Promise first....then enjoy the two to follow. All four are intertwined in such a way that it almost feels like one large, wonderful novel.

Second book in the Velvet series...Excellent! Fiery! WOW!
I was told by a few people that I might not like this installment of the Velvet books, but on the contrary, I absolutely LOVED LOVED it! The heroine's strong character and stubborness captivated me! I loved her spririt! I in no way saw Stephen Montgomery as weak in this story! He was a man truly and madly in love with a stubborn and willful woman who has held past hatreds deep in her heart and finds it difficult to trust anyone English.

Soon after Stephen's summons to marry a Scottish Laird named Bronwyn MacArran by King Henry, he invisions a horrible woman with claws and an ugliness so fierce she would scare him just by looking his way, what he encounters is a much, much different vison worth fighting for...clear blue eyes and hair the color of midnight...so breathtaking she makes him forget who he is.

Bronwyn is not under ANY circumstances a weak woman or meek in any form. She is the leader of a powerful clan. She fears nothing and no one, even her most hated enemy, the MacGregors. She will not bend to the will of any man, including some English sop like Stephen Montgomery. She too is shocked by his handsome face and seemingly sweet personality, but she must not be fooled into thinking he is anything other than a murdering Englishman, the same race that murdered her father and her men from the clan not too long ago. She only agrees to marry him in order to save bloodshed amoung her people and the English, but she will never become a loving wife to the horrible Englishman even though he makes her knees weak and her skin tingle when he looks her way with his devilish smile.

A battle of wills begins, more fierce than that of the battle raging between the two clans fueding. Can Bronwyn prove to herself and her clan that she is a worthy laird? Will Stephen gain the trust and admiration of her clan? Will he abandon his English ways for her? Does he love her? Can she love him enough to look past his race?

A truly touching love story of a will so strong that it takes a very determined and strong man to show Bronwyn that not all men are alike and that he loves her with all his heart. He will give up his life and identity for her, just to see her smile for him. I could not help but love Stephen and I truly loved Bronwyn. A very realistic view of how the Scots felt towards the English and how a woman laird with so much hate can try and overcome her misgivings.

The story is filled with history, action, adventure, villians, love and even humor! For example, one of the funniest parts in the book was when Bronwyn tried to stop Stephen from getting involved in the clans quarrels and said to him, "He hates the English more than I do!" and he responds, "That's impossible." Stephen proves worthy of any Scotswoman and even to become a noble and fierce Scotsman. I highly recommend this book, even with some of the bad reviews it has recieved. I simply loved it and could not help myself! Very hard to put down! If you love very very strong willed heroines and men who will not give up them for the world, then you will like this book! It was also nice to meet up with the other brothers, Gavin and Raine and Miles. We meet up with Judith also,Gavin's wife, from the first book, VELVET PROMISE. I think I have to admit, this might very well become my favorite of the series, but we'll see, I need to start the third book now about Raine called VELVET SONG and finish with the last story about Miles called VELVET ANGEL. You can't help but love the Montgomery men! Especially Stephen! Wow! (VELVET PROMISE, HIGHLAND VELVET, VELVET SONG & VELVET ANGEL)
